چکیده
This essay goes through Frederick 2015 (the critique) in some detail, responding to the various paraphrases and criticisms therein. It is argued that each case critique mistaken about what Lester 2012 (Escape from Leviathan: EfL) says, or presents as a sound criticism, both. Introduction: three problems with philosophical problem EfL attempting solve. “Abstract”: critique’s confusion EfL’s aprioristic theory of instrumental rationality. There are then detailed replies (too many too diverse summarise) quotations confused interpretations under following headings (quoted critique): “2. Instrumental Rationality”; 3. Weakness Will”; “4. Desires Values”; “5. Free “6. Self-Interest”; “7. Maximisation”; “8. Morals”. Finally, “9. Conclusion”, for economics briefly restated. The interpretation homo economicus (as its overall libertarianism) has yet be given adequate critical consideration.

Epistemic Rationality as Instrumental Rationality: A Critique
My aim in this paper is to explore the relationship between epistemic rationality and instrumental rationality. By epistemic rationality, I mean, roughly, the kind of rationality which one displays when one believes propositions that are strongly supported by one's evidence and refrains from believing propositions that are improbable given one's evidence. Prominent epistemologists frequently em...
متن کاملNegative Goals and Identity: Revisiting Sen’s Critique of Homo Economicus
Sen’s critique of the homo economicus conception of choice asserts that agents who ‘displace’ their goals, and instead choose on the basis of others’, are not therefore irrational. I first defend Sen against the objection that violations of “self-goal choice” undermine coherent deliberation. My critique of Sen then introduces the notion of ‘negative goals’ and shows that the process of adopting...

It considers in particular arguments made on behalf of a...
متن کاملAdversus singularitates: The ontology of space-time singularities
I argue that there are no physical singularities in space-time. Singular space-time models do not belong to the ontology of the world, because of a simple reason: they are concepts, defective solutions of Einstein’s field equations. I discuss the actual implication of the so-called singularity theorems. In remarking the confusion and fog that emerge from the reification of singularities I hope ...
